LATINISTA™ Fashion Week started in 2011 with IMAN Cosmetics & Latina Magazine and it is now on its 6th year. The goal was to give high-end designers as well as to discover new Latino/Latina designers and give them a new platform to show during Fashion Week and to the Hispanic demographic millennial generation. We have grown rapidly and now it becomes one of the running and successful fashion platforms during New York Fashion Week not just for Hispanics but for fashion insiders as well. Celebrity Designer Cesar Galindo who joined the runway in 2013 caught the vision and has now joined forces and collaborated with LATINISTA™ to take it to new levels.

We are now presenting during Fashion Week February 9th.

milagros batista

My first full knitting project was a dress I made for myself.  I wore the dress on a Sunday afternoon to the “Parque Central.”   The dress was a hit! In our tradition families would dress up and gather in the Square Sunday afternoons after church. To this day I tingle in delight.  Soon I began to create pieces for my brothers and sisters.  I think of this period as the happiest of my life, the joy of creating beautiful and powerful pieces straight out of my hands!

Over the years I have discovered the deeper meaning of Doña Maria Luisa’s teachings.  A knitted piece of clothing out of the hands of a “Master Knitter” has the power to transform the life of a person, to reveal the deepest beauty of a person.  A Master Knitter is an artist, not just a crafts person.  Knitting is deeply spiritual.  Knitting is liberating, removes blockage and opens new paths for growth, experience and beauty. Knitting is a meditation and through meditation the self is focused, gathering power and strength.

I design knitted pieces of clothing for women on the path of freedom.  I design knitted pieces for women who seek to fully realize themselves, to expose their deeper beauty to the world.

HOST FOR SS17

creative and fashion director of latina magazine

Ebby Antigua is the Creative Services Director and Fashion Director of Latina magazine and Latina.com.  Ebby leads the Photo/Art Department and approves/advises on designs across all LMV platforms. As Creative Services Director, Ebby Antigua rubs elbows with Latina celebs, their favorite stylists and makeup artists and dishes on their secret fashion, food, and cultural obsessions. Ebby has cultivated these relationships and used this as an inspiration in the creation of her Ebsession page for the print side and is expanding this to the web as well as Fashion. The Ebsession page will link readers to all the great new fashion trends and her picks on what readers should be wearing now. The Ebsession brand will also share with our readership ideas and tips from the top stylists and makeup artists. This also helps to create advertising opportunities for top brands.

She will continue to be responsible for defining the brand’s fashion, beauty, and culture footprint on multiple platforms. Since this role already has her front and center to the outside world in so many ways, she will also begin to be a face and personality to help the sales and marketing team connect our consumer to the Latina Media Ventures brand. Ebby not only creates the magazine’s beautiful visuals from cover to cover and leads creative designs for all of LMV brand extensions but she is also a leading video content creator and personality across all LMV brands and social platforms. The mission statement for Ebby is to seamlessly blend the print and web content to provide readers with eye pleasing layouts and interactive content.

Throughout her career, Antigua’s work has been honored with awards from the Society of Publication Designers, Association of the Graphic Arts, Magazine Publishers of America as well as the 2011 Eddie Ozzie Gold Award for Best Redesign Consumers.

Christina Mendez-Celebrity Plus Size Model

Born and raised in the city that never sleeps-New York City, exotic-beauty and grand-daughter of Merengue King Joseito Mateo, Christina Mendez has flaunted her god-given curves through magazine spreads, fashion campaigns, and runways. By creating fashionable moments in the modeling industry working with many well-respected clients such as: BET, Ashley Stewart, Sofia Vergara for Kmart, Khols, Madrag, Qristyl Fraizer Designs, Cyberswim, PLY Apparel, Rue107 and more, Christina is continuing to change industry-standard proving “curves can be marketable and sexy”.

As industry honchos began to take notice to the “powerhouse phenom” being featured in numerous fashion campaigns, Christina became (and still is) one of the most in-demand models to grace the pages and sites of leading fashion and entertainment media forums from People en Español, Elle.com, Latina Magazine, Shape.com, Essence, Cosmo Latina, Vogue.it, The Source Magazine to being seen nationwide on ¡Qué Noche! con Angélica y Raúl, The Rachael Ray Show, The Today Show, Noticias al Despertar and Good Morning America.

With the public finally shining a positive spotlight on curvaceous beauty, Christina has been fortunate to be added to countless “curvy beauty” lists including: Centric "Curvy Style" - Curvy Models Who Are Slaying The Fashion Game, MSN Living, Zimbio.com, ODDEE-10 Incredibly Hot Women over a Size 10, StyleBistro- The Most Beautiful Plus Size Models, and Wiki Noticia- Top Sexiest Women In the World--joining fellow successful plus models: Ashley Graham, Crystal Renn, Whitney Thompson, and Kate Dillon.

Continuing to garner attention and break-down barriers, Christina is one of the few plus-size models to historically walk in New York Fashion Week (2016, 2014, 2013) integrated with straight-sized models, proving to critics that the beauty of fashion is for everyone and should be celebrated through body positivity. In 2016, Christina was industry selected as "Model of The Year" by Full Figured Fashion Week standing alongside the likes of modeling pioneers and positive body image activist of the past.

If walking the catwalk, modeling for major brands, and lending her support to various events weren't enough, Christina lends her support and time to Autism Speaks -- a charity close to her heart. As a mother of an autistic son, Christina helps raise awareness as well as provide the most up-to-date information on breakthroughs and treatment for Autism as the spokesperson for the New York Chapter of Autism Speaks.

Mother, Model, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist...there’s no stopping the powerhouse that is Christina Mendez!
